The Tennessee Titans are set to welcome back their young quarterback, Will Levis, this Sunday as they face the Los Angeles Chargers. After missing three weeks due to a shoulder injury, Levis is ready to reclaim his starting role under center, head coach Brian Callahan confirmed on Friday.

Levis’ return comes at a crucial point in the Titans’ season, as they currently sit at 2-6, with their playoff hopes nearly extinguished. However, his comeback also presents an opportunity for the team to evaluate his potential as a long-term solution at quarterback.

Levis suffered a right shoulder injury in Week 4 during a gritty play against the Miami Dolphins. To secure a first down, the rookie quarterback dove forward, landing awkwardly on his throwing shoulder. He attempted to continue playing but was eventually forced out of the game, with backup quarterback Mason Rudolph stepping in to guide the team to a 31-12 victory.

The injury sidelined Levis for multiple weeks, but an early bye provided some additional time for recovery. He made his initial return in Week 6 against the Indianapolis Colts, completing 16 of 27 passes for 95 yards, one touchdown, and one interception in a 20-17 loss. However, it became evident that he was not fully healthy, prompting the coaching staff to keep him out for another three weeks.

With Levis on the sidelines, Mason Rudolph stepped in as the Titans’ quarterback. While he maintained a steady presence, his play lacked the explosive capability the Titans needed. His best performance came last week in an overtime victory against the New England Patriots, where he completed 60.6% of his passes for two touchdowns and one interception.

Despite Rudolph’s efforts, Tennessee’s offensive limitations were clear. Without a playmaker at quarterback, the offense struggled to generate big plays, and the team suffered continued setbacks. Now, with Levis back in the mix, the Titans hope to inject some life into their offense, even as the postseason remains a long shot.

At 2-6, the Titans are facing an uphill battle in the AFC. Their playoff chances are slim, but Levis’s return provides the organization with an opportunity to assess his development and determine if he’s their franchise quarterback moving forward. While winning remains a priority, evaluating Levis will be just as crucial in the coming weeks.

For Levis, these next few games could be defining moments in his career. With the Titans expected to have a high draft pick in 2025, they could consider selecting another quarterback if they feel Levis isn’t the long-term answer. This adds pressure on Levis to prove he is capable of leading the team.

Levis’ return will be met with a formidable opponent. The Los Angeles Chargers have won three of their last four games and are gaining momentum in the AFC playoff race. Their defense, led by Pro Bowlers Joey Bosa and Derwin James, will look to disrupt Levis’ rhythm and force the Titans’ offense into uncomfortable situations.

Tennessee’s offensive line must step up to protect Levis, giving him time to make plays. Additionally, the Titans’ running game, led by star back Derrick Henry, will need to establish a presence early to take pressure off Levis’s arm.

Sunday’s game represents more than just another matchup—it’s a chance for Levis to make a statement. Can he shake off the rust and deliver a strong performance? Or will the Titans continue to struggle under his leadership?

The Titans and Chargers kick off at 4:05 PM ET on Sunday, with all eyes on Levis as he looks to make his long-awaited return memorable.
